Willem Jan Jacobus Oswald de Wilde (1936-2021) was a Dutch botanist. He studied biology at Leiden University and later started working as a researcher there. He specialised in the nutmeg family. Brigitta Emma Elisabeth de Wilde-Duyfjes (1936) was born in Indonesia and also studied biology at Leiden University. Like Willem, she specialised in plants and worked for years as a biology teacher in Wassenaar. Willem and Brigitta also worked together on taxonomic research in Southeast Asia, Thailand, Cambodia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Ethiopia, among other places. During these expeditions they collected more than 24,000 plant parts. Together they described more than 200 new plant species. Their collection is now managed by Naturalis. Brigitta still visits the collection every day.
